What information should be
included in a CV?
Bearing in mind that the contents and aims of the CV can be different the headings for each part of the CV are generally the same, although some parts would be left out depending on previous work/education experience. In general, the contents should be as follows:
- Name, Address and Contact Information:
This should be at the top of the CV and should include contact telephone numbers (including mobile) as well as an email address - Profile:
This should give an outline of your capabilities and contain all relevant information about you. - Key Achievements:
This should list your main work and educational achievements. - Key Skills:
This should list your main skills. If you are in IT, this section would list the packages, applications and/or programs that you have experience with. If you speak/write in any other languages these could be included here. - Education, Courses and Professional Qualifications:
This would list all the courses you have attended, your professional qualifications and your education achievements. - Personal Details:
This would list your marital status, date of birth, nationality, work visas and whether you have a driving licence and car. Current UK anti-discrimination laws do not require you to provide some of this information if you do not wish to. - Interests:
This is where you list your main interests (such as hill climbing, keep fit and dancing). Try and avoid putting "socialising with friends" or “family” unless these are your only interests. - References:
It is not now normal practice to list these on the CV, but just to include a statement that references are available on request
