How to write a successful CV
Welcome to our tutorial on how to write a succesful CV. We hope to help you undersatnd better the process involved in wrting the perfect CV - résumé
There is no "one and only way" to put together a CV: The CV style, format and contents depends on a number of things:
- Whether you want a permanent job, a contract job or a temporary, interim or part-time job;
- Whether you have just started out on your career with no previous job experience or you have a track record of achievements in work;
- Whether you want to change the direction of your career and move in a another direction or you just want to progress in your chosen work stream;
- Whether you want to relocate from the area you live in or wish to stay in the same area; or
- Whether the CV is to be put online/emailed or just to be used as part of a letter application to a company or specialist recruitment agent.
The CV is your document and can be structured as you wish within a few guidelines. It can be either or both of paper-based or put online onto a job board, other websites or emailed to apply for particular roles.
If the CV is available online then you will normally be approached by recruitment agents after they have searched for suitable candidates online. There is a difference in these two types of CV.
The online/emailed version will be used by recruitment agents to find key words (and will use a key word search program) whereas the paper application CV would be normally tailored to match the job for which you are applying. So, as we said before, there is no “one and only way” to put together a CV.
